Event description

The chefs, volunteers and guests who make up our Signature Chefs Events community are coming together in new, innovative ways to suport moms and babies this year.

We are following state mandated guidelines in response to COVID-19 and will not have an in-person event this year. So, we are preparing an exciting, new Virtual Gala for your 2020 March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction experience!

We need your help now more than ever. Your support funds:

  • COVID-19 interventions and support for moms and babies
  • Programs that promote health equity for moms and babies and directly combat racial disparities in maternal and child health
  • Free virtual NICU support program for families
  • Virtual prenatal programs for moms-to-be
  • Educational programs, including live Facebook panel discussions, to get info into the hands of moms and families
  • Necessary supplies for expectant mothers including blood pressure cuffs and masks and so much more!

Support the mission

Every year, 15 million babies are born prematurely worldwide, and 1 million will die before their first birthday. Your gift helps the March of Dimes fund research, education, advocacy and programs that help more moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.

Data show that the U.S. remains among the most dangerous developed nations in the world for childbirth. Over 700 women die each year from pregnancy-related causes, and the CDC reports that 60 percent are preventable. The preterm birth rate is on the rise. Two babies die every hour in the United States. By joining our Signature Chefs Auction community you are making a big difference.

2023 AMBASSADOR FAMILY
THE SCHUTTE FAMILY

Introducing our 2023 Ambassador Family, the Schuttes.  In 2018, Kim and Alex had a textbook pregnancy with no issues with mom or baby.  At 38 weeks, Kim noticed the baby's movement had slowed.  They consulted their Dr. and was told not to worry as there isn't a lot of room for the baby at this point in the pregnancy.  Out of futher concern, Kim and Alex scheduled an appointment and sadly their baby boy's heart was no longer beating.  Their baby Ethan had passed and they told them they would have to deliver him stillborn that day.  Nine hours later, they met their beautiful baby boy, Ethan Alexander Schutte, delivering him into a world he would never know.  It took Kim and Alex some time to be ready to talk about getting pregnant again and they ended up getting pregnant in 2021.
The dorctor determined that they lost Ethan due to a late term blood clot that Kim developed, cutting off blood flow to the placenta.

It was 2021, still in the midst of COVID, Kim and Alex were cautious about who they saw, what they did and didn't post anything about the pregnancy on social media.  Only close friends and family knew.
The doctor's plan was to induce Kim at 39 weeks, one week past the point where they lost Ethan.
Getting to 36,37,38 weeks was both triumphant and brought even more anxiety.
On Octover 18, 2021, they drove to the hospital where they had delivered Ethan and 4 hours of labor later, the same doctor who delivered Ethan, delivered a healthy and beautiful baby girl.
Bella Louise was born at 6:59 am, 8lb.4oz.  They cried tears of joy and relief.
